Name: 3DR Solo Quadcopters & Multirotors
Brand: 3DR

Question 1

Is the 3DR Solo hard to transport?

Accepted Answer

Yes — it's famously bulky. The Solo is a large quad that doesn't fold, as owners of multiple units point out, making it awkward compared with modern folding drones. Factor a proper case and storage space into any Solo hobby budget — along with the community-forum reading you'll be doing.

Question 2

Why did 3DR discontinue the Solo?

Accepted Answer

3DR exited the consumer drone business in 2016 after the Solo couldn't hold ground against DJI's aggressive pricing and integrated-camera drones. It's a classic tech-story casualty — the Solo's smart-flight features were ahead of their time, but the company couldn't survive the category's price war. That history is why support ended and units sell cheap today.

Question 3

What camera does the 3DR Solo use?

Accepted Answer

A GoPro — the Solo carried your own GoPro rather than a built-in camera. That design gives it flexibility, but owners note the downsides: fisheye footage from the bare lens and stabilization limits depending on the gimbal setup. Gimbal failures over time are among the most-reported Solo hardware issues.
