What should I check when buying a used Canon EOS R6?

Shutter count and general wear are the usual concerns on any used mirrorless body, and on the EOS R6 specifically it is worth asking whether the seller has observed the known overheating behaviour during video use. Confirm exactly which lenses, batteries, and accessories are included, since kit contents vary widely between listings. If a spec is not stated, check the listing rather than assuming it matches the Mark II.

Can the Canon EOS R6 shoot 4K 60p?

Yes, the EOS R6 can shoot 4K 60p, but reviewers found it could only sustain roughly 30 minutes before overheating forced a shutdown, and then only about another 10 minutes once it had cooled enough to resume. It is usable for short takes rather than extended recording. Plan around cooldown time if 4K 60p is central to your shoot.

Is the Canon EOS R6 still worth buying?

For photography, the EOS R6 still holds up well and can make sense as a more affordable entry into Canon's full-frame mirrorless system. For serious videography, the unresolved thermal limits make the R6 Mark II the clearer choice. Check the price history on Shopfox before buying to see how far the original EOS R6 has separated from the Mark II.
