Is the New Nintendo 2DS XL worth buying today?

It's still the most affordable route into a library of 2,000-plus DS and 3DS games, including entries you can't easily play elsewhere. The caveats are real: a closed eShop, retired online infrastructure, no official repairs, and age-related wear on hinges and batteries. Buy on condition, and compare New and Refurbished New Nintendo 2DS XL listings across sellers on Shopfox.

New Nintendo 2DS XL vs New 3DS XL — which is better?

The New Nintendo 2DS XL is lighter and usually cheaper, and it skips the 3D screen; the New 3DS XL has the stereoscopic display and a more premium build with a sturdier hinge. Both play the same games at the same screen sizes. If the 3D effect doesn't appeal, the 2DS XL is the sensible pick.

Can you still buy games for the New Nintendo 2DS XL?

Not digitally from Nintendo. The 3DS eShop closed for purchases on 27 March 2023, so you can no longer buy software or DLC on the system. Games bought before the shutdown remain playable and re-downloadable per Nintendo's stated policy, and physical cartridges work as normal — which is how most New Nintendo 2DS XL owners build a library today.
