Name: DJI Tello Quadcopters & Multirotors
Brand: DJI

Question 1

Is the DJI Tello a good first drone for a beginner or a kid?

Accepted Answer

It is one of the most commonly recommended starters, because it packs a lot of technology into a small, forgiving, budget-friendly airframe and needs no FAA registration. Reviewers consistently frame it as a toy and learning tool rather than a serious camera drone. Since it is discontinued, availability now comes mostly from resellers and refurbished stock — worth checking price history on Shopfox before committing.

Question 2

Is the DJI Tello good for outdoor flying?

Accepted Answer

Not really. At roughly 80 grams the Tello is very light and gets pushed around easily by wind, so it is far happier indoors or outside on a dead-calm day. It has no GPS, which means no satellite-assisted hover or return-to-home. Treat it as an indoor trainer and coding platform rather than an outdoor camera drone.

Question 3

Can you program the DJI Tello with code?

Accepted Answer

Yes, and this is the main reason it stayed popular in classrooms. The DJI Tello supports block coding through MIT Scratch and can be scripted in Python via community libraries, which makes it a common choice for teaching drone programming. Because the platform is no longer being updated, community libraries and archived documentation are what most users rely on today.
