Name: DJI Air 3S Quadcopters & Multirotors
Brand: DJI

Question 1

Is the DJI Air 3S a good drone for travel?

Accepted Answer

It's widely reviewed as one of the best mid-size travel drones — it folds down for a backpack, gets genuinely useful flight time per battery, and its dual-camera setup plus omnidirectional sensing make it forgiving for less experienced pilots. The trade-off versus a sub-250g Mini is that it needs FAA registration and is subject to more regulatory scrutiny in some countries. Check local rules for your destination before flying.

Question 2

DJI Air 3S vs DJI Air 3 — is the upgrade worth it?

Accepted Answer

The Air 3S's main additions over the Air 3 are the forward LiDAR for low-light obstacle sensing, an upgraded main camera sensor and internal storage. If you fly mostly in good light and already own an Air 3, the case for upgrading is modest; if you're buying fresh, the Air 3S is the better drone. Compare Air 3 and Air 3S listings across sellers on Shopfox to see whether the gap justifies itself.

Question 3

How good is obstacle avoidance on the DJI Air 3S?

Accepted Answer

The Air 3S has omnidirectional obstacle sensing backed by a forward-facing LiDAR sensor plus infrared and visual sensors front, rear and bottom, which lets it detect obstacles even in low light. Reviewers flying through wooded areas found it detects branches early — including ones not visible on screen — and stops or reroutes. It's noticeably more reliable than the sensing on DJI's smaller Mini drones.
