Is the DJI Flip good for beginners?

Yes — it's one of DJI's most beginner-oriented drones. The full-coverage guards reduce the risk of a prop strike, the sub-250g weight simplifies US recreational registration, and palm launch removes the intimidation of stick control. The tradeoffs are limited obstacle sensing and a flight time that drops under real conditions, so newcomers should still fly conservatively in open areas.

Do you need a controller to fly the DJI Flip?

The DJI Flip supports controller-free operation for basic shots — you can launch it from your palm and trigger intelligent shooting modes, which is a big part of its appeal for casual users. For full manual control and longer range you'll want a DJI remote. Bundles vary a lot in what's included, so check exactly which controller (if any) comes with a given DJI Flip listing before buying.

DJI Flip vs DJI Mini 4 Pro — which should I get?

The DJI Flip's standout traits are its full prop guards and folding design, making it friendly for beginners and for flying near people, plus it can launch from your palm without a controller. The Mini 4 Pro is the more capable flyer, with omnidirectional obstacle sensing that the Flip lacks. Choose the Flip for approachability and portability, the Mini 4 Pro for range of capability. Great app and easy learning!

Super easy to connect to my iPhone! I've never flown a drone before, but learning is a total blast. Love the photos and videos we got—even captured some cool rainstorm shots. The 30-minute battery flies by when you're having fun, so I'm already looking into spare batteries!

1st startup failure for a brand new one

I ordered a brand new unit, but what arrived was clearly used. On the very first power-up, I got multiple hardware errors—IMU failure, gimbal disconnection, sensor faults, and a message saying parts are missing. The drone has never flown, and both the aircraft and RC 2 are fully charged and connected. I’m asking for a replacement because this is just defective.
