Does the HP 1040 Fax still work for faxing?

Technically yes where analog phone lines and fax services persist, with its 14.4 Kbps modem completing pages in about six seconds. Whether fax remains part of your workflow is the real question. Compare working HP 1040 units across Shopfox sellers with returns.

What ink does the HP 1040 Fax use?

The HP 20 (C6614) black cartridge, roughly 455 pages — discontinued in genuine form but available remanufactured at modest prices. Factor supplies honestly against the machine's practical value. Check included cartridges on Shopfox listings before buying. See current offers and price history on Shopfox before committing.

Was the HP 1040 Fax recalled?

Yes — HP and the CPSC recalled the 1040 and 1050 Fax in 2012 over fire and burn hazards, with HP offering replacements at the time. Any unit still in circulation predates that remedy program, a material fact for buyers. Verify recall context on any Shopfax 1040 listing before purchasing.
