Is the DesignJet T1700dr still supported?

As an older generation, availability skews refurbished and remainder — HP's newer T-series Plus editions succeeded it in many markets — but parts, inks, and service knowledge remain established in the dealer network. Used enterprise plotters trade at dramatic discounts. Buy from specialists who can install and service what they sell.

Is the T1700dr good for GIS and CAD?

Purpose-built for it — the embedded Adobe PDF Print Engine renders transparencies, layers, and color palettes faithfully, with 0.1-percent line accuracy for precision work and HP's enterprise security stack around it. GIS threads consistently place it in exactly this conversation. The right tool, unmistakably.

Why dual rolls on a plotter?

Productivity, pure and simple — two loaded media types switch automatically between bond and vellum jobs, and roll changes halve, which matters enormously at 116 A1 prints per hour. Deadline-driven repro houses live on exactly this capability. Single-roll variants exist for calmer, smaller workflows.
