Should I buy the Canon EOS 250D or a mirrorless camera?

The EOS 250D is widely described as Canon's last beginner DSLR, and the company has since focused its development on mirrorless RF-mount bodies. That means the EF-S lens ecosystem is mature and available cheaply used, but it is not where new development is happening. Buy it if you want an affordable optical-viewfinder DSLR with excellent image quality; choose mirrorless if you want a longer upgrade path.

Is the Canon EOS 250D the same as the Rebel SL3?

Yes. Canon sells the same camera as the EOS 250D in Europe and much of the world and as the EOS Rebel SL3 in North America, with the EOS 200D Mark II name used in some other regions. The hardware is identical, so reviews of either name apply. This is worth knowing when comparing listings that use different names.

How good is autofocus on the Canon EOS 250D?

Very good in live view and 1080p video, where Canon's Dual Pixel CMOS AF focuses smoothly and confidently across the frame. It is one of the camera's genuine strengths and a big advantage over rival entry-level DSLRs of its era. The limitation is that Dual Pixel AF is unavailable in 4K recording.
