Sony a6700 vs a6100 — which should you buy?

The a6700 is the clear step-up: a newer 26MP BSI sensor, AI subject-recognition autofocus, in-body stabilization, 4K120 video, and a fully articulating screen. The 2019 a6100 still tracks subjects impressively for the money — body listings start around $480 on Shopfox — but lacks IBIS and advanced video. Buy the Sony a6700 for hybrid work, the a6100 for budget stills.

What are the weaknesses of the Sony a6700?

The most-cited drawbacks are the single SD card slot, no autofocus joystick, a small eye-level viewfinder, no front control dial, and APS-C lenses that cost nearly as much as full-frame glass. Reviewers also note the a6700's video workflow can feel slow. None of these are dealbreakers for enthusiasts, but professionals shooting paid work may want dual card slots.

Can the Sony a6700 shoot 4K 120fps?

Yes. The a6700 records 4K at up to 120p for slow motion, alongside 4K60 that oversamples from a 6K region for extra sharpness. Note that high-frame-rate 4K on the Sony a6700 applies a crop and produces large files, and some users report a slow offloading workflow after long recording sessions — plan storage accordingly.
