How much storage does the PlayStation 3 have and can it be upgraded?

Storage varies by model, ranging from around 12GB flash on some Super Slim units to 500GB on larger hard-drive versions. The good news is the PlayStation 3's 2.5-inch hard drive is user-upgradeable, so you can install a bigger drive fairly easily. When buying used, check the listed capacity, and compare New vs used offers on Shopfox to match your storage needs and budget.

Does the PlayStation 3 play Blu-ray discs?

Yes, every PlayStation 3 model includes a built-in Blu-ray player, which was a major selling point at launch. It plays retail Blu-ray movies, DVDs, and CDs, making it a capable media hub in addition to a games console. Some buyers still pick up a used PlayStation 3 specifically as an affordable Blu-ray player that also handles a deep back catalog of games.

Can the PlayStation 3 still play games online in 2026?

Partially. Sony kept the PlayStation Network running for the PlayStation 3, so many older titles still have functioning online servers and you can access some store content. However, several third-party game servers have shut down over the years, so not every multiplayer mode works. Single-player libraries remain fully playable, which is the main reason people still buy a PlayStation 3.

Great PS3 For Price Excellent Quality and Value! Missing Charger :(

The console came a bit dusty, but it works and turns on well. Sadly, I can't play it yet because they gave me a PS4 charger instead of a PS3 one—how do you mix those up? They're completely different. Everything else is great: the console looks good, comes with a DualShock 3 controller, HDMI cable, and power cord. I'd recommend buying a PS3 charger separately just in case. The quality is excellent, and it's super nostalgic—I grew up playing PS3 and it feels like 2014 again! Just missing the right charger. 😊
